The times are changing and the way we are shopping for our groceries is changing as well. Trying to navigate how to go out shopping and keeping yourself safe. The worry and and anxiety surrounding the Covid-19 outbreak has simply taken over our lives. These are some simple ways to stay safe if you do need to leave to stock up on supplies.

Make A Plan

Don’t wait to run out or even low on supplies, but there is no reason to buy excessively either. Remember to be kind we all need supplies so don’t clear the shelves. There is no reason to get 100 rolls of toilet paper! Please people chill out on the toilet paper and paper towels. So back to the plan. Make a list of everything you need. Make sure to get at least 2 weeks supplies of what you need to minimize your time outside.

Supplies You Need

There is supplies I have to make sure that me and my family are protected while getting groceries and when you bring your groceries home. Before I leave the house I leave a canister of Clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, and Lysol by the front door. So I bring face masks, gloves, antibacterial wipes to the grocery store. Before I get out of the car I put my mask and gloves. I bring the wipe to wipe down the cart that I plan to be using. Then I tie it to the cart just in case.

Safe Way To Shop

Always keep your mask and gloves on while you shop. Keep your distance as much as possible at least 6 feet. It makes it easier if you know what aisles your supplies are in to make it fast and easy to get in and out. I know a lot of stores are limiting the number people in so that helps with keeping your distance. Right now it is all about social distancing and as hard as that is for us it is necessary. So when you see an aisle with too many people in it go to the next aisle and circle back to that aisle before you check out. Practice social distancing and stay safe. When you do get to checkout be kind and thank the cashiers because they are putting themselves at risk for us.

Throw Out Your Gloves in a Trash Can

This is making me crazy when you are done loading your groceries into your car please DO NOT throw your gloves on the floor. There is not need to litter and to be honest its gross. Find a garbage can and if you can’t find a garbage can keep a small plastic bag in the back of your car. That way you can throw them out when you get home and still say safe.

Cleaning your Groceries

I know, I know not in a million years did I ever think I would be cleaning my groceries before bringing them into my home. I never really thought about who touched my groceries before me. It was simple go get what you need to get and that was it. Well not anymore. How many people touch your groceries before you do. The people who package them, the people who stock the shelves at the store and whoever else picks it up the box, then decide they don’t want it and put it back. My husband and I do the grocery shopping its easier with 2 people.

If you have a small folding table that you can bring outside set it up and bring out the Clorox Wipes. Put on gloves and start unloading as you unload wipe down your groceries before bringing them into the house. Once they are wiped down you can bring them in. What I do is I pull all the groceries out of the bags from the store and as I clean them I bring them in. All of the bags from the store stay outside and get thrown away.

If you can’t do it outside you can do the same thing inside. Its up to your if you decide you want to keep the bags from the grocery store to re-use grab a can of Lysol or Disinfecting Spray and start spraying them down. Don’t forget to wipe down any surface the bags have touched and throw out the gloves. WASH YOUR HANDS! You might think that this is over kill but I would rather be safe than become a statistic.

In Conclusion I want to thank all the essential workers especially the Supermarket Employees who are showing up for us everyday. Please only go out when you need to and practice social distancing.
